Welcome to the Library

Skipping Stone created the Demand Response Free Library in 2011 as a collection of articles, white papers, presentations, and reports designed to keep you educated and informed about the Demand Response Industry. Our DR leadership team has been involved in the market since before it was called DR. We have participated in market developments from the early stages of technology and market entrants, into the current phase of automation, consolidation, and market rule changes.

We began seeing Smart Buildings, Grids, and Cities, and terms like DER, DERMS, and IoT… so we grew our library to help you grow your knowledge. Today there is a world of information available, so we’re winding down the library… but we haven’t deserted you. We are compiling a bibliography of resources complete with links to scholarly articles and news.

And, as always, you can contact us for additional research into this fast moving market area.

Watch here for a new bibliography with helpful links. Meanwhile, download the offerings below and visit our other pages for helpful information.

DER

This free presentation provides an overall perspective on the shift from demand response (DR) to distributed energy resources (DER), including definitions, drivers, markets and implications.

Originally presented by Skipping Stone Partner Ross Malme at the EUCI Conference on Flexible and Fast Response Controllable Resources. Ross leads Skipping Stone’s Smart Grid and Distributed Energy Resources Practice. This practice has included leading Skipping Stone’s engagement as Technical Advisor to the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) which is focused on export of US Smart Grid Technologies to the developing world.

technology trap

At Skipping Stone, we’ve seen organizations get to the end of a technology implementation, live with it for a while, create spreadsheet work arounds and eventually rip it all out and start over. This expensive and disruptive process is what we call the technology trap… but the good news is that it is completely avoidable.

This free whitepaper by John P.W. Brown, VI lines out the steps you can take to avoid the Technology Trap. John has over 25 years’ experience in the energy industry and leads Skipping Stone’s Technology Services Practice. This practice includes leading Skipping Stone’s engagements with wholesale and retail marketers, utilities, generators, and energy technology providers.
